Whats the Difference Between a GPS Navigation System, and a GPS Receiver?

Are these the same? Im looking for a GPS thingy but I cant tell if these two are the same. Also, which one is best to use. I need a compact one to use in the car and to carry around. My preferences: accuracy, easy updateable maps.

We just got a super great GPS receiver that we use everyday. Check it out at the link: http://www.globaltrackinggroup.com
We have canvassers that go door to door dropping off flyers. It gives us a per 5 minute report. We also use their maps to print for new areas. It’s easy and I’m happy so far. Also, it’s smaller than a flip-phone.

Technically, a GPS receiver is only the component that listens for several satellites in the GPS system and computer the location, speed, and altitude of the receiver.
A navigation system has additional information in the form of GIS map data which the system can use to make images of maps, locate things near by and direct routing from here to there. Or keep track of where the unit is, as in the first answer.
If fact, most people probably use the terms interchangeably, not knowing the difference.
